Assignment 3c

Matthew McDonald:
In Matthew's first paragraph he touched on the work Freire accomplished by teaching 300 sugarcane workers how to read and write. This was an important achievement not only for him, but for the workers. It gave them a power to have more of a say in their country. They were delievered from thier bondage that the government put on them. By not educating their people, the government remained in control of the people and the way in which the country would operate. Literacy among the people was vital in order for them to change thier country and live in a society in which their opinon mattered and was considered.

Robyn Chase:
In Robyn's blog she gave good background information on Paulo Freire's life growing up and what he had to endure. His past gives everyone an insight into why he fought for the things he did. Since he grew up during the Great Depression, he knew what it was like to go hungry, and thus this was motivation for him. He knew that he needed "to be the change he wished to see in the world" Mahatma Gandhi.

Freire's ideas are the basis in which we are learning in this class. Freire has a strong tie to Latin America, in the work that he accomplished there. We are learning in a way that is allowing us to stretch our minds and how we think. It is causing us to question and through that we are learning more about other people and other countries.
